Residential branch circuits
Analyze common dwelling circuits through conductor, protection, and code requirements.

Systems to study
General lighting, small-appliance circuits, laundry, bathrooms, kitchens, garages, outdoor receptacles, dishwasher and disposal, microwave, range, dryer, water heater, HVAC, and smoke/CO alarms.
Ask four questions every time
- What conductor size is required?
- What overcurrent protection is required?
- Is GFCI protection required?
- Is AFCI protection required?
Then cite the applicable NEC section, local amendment, equipment listing, and manufacturer instruction when relevant.
Field exercise
Create a branch-circuit schedule for a hypothetical two-bedroom dwelling. Do not rely on memory alone: record the source used for each decision.
